Michael Harvey scored a career-high 23 points, all in the second half, to help Xavier University of Louisiana pull away Saturday for a 100-58 men's basketball victory over Carver Bible at The Barn.
The Gold Rush won for the 14th consecutive time in a season opener and handed Carver (0-2) its 33rd consecutive loss dating to February 2008.
Harvey was 10-of-11 from the floor after halftime and made his final seven shots to help Xavier outscore the Cougars 49-14 in the final 12½ minutes.
Dannie Woods added a career-high-tying 20 points, and
Devin Andrew scored 16 for Xavier. The Rush used 11 players, all of whom scored. Five of Xavier's six freshmen played and combined for 21 points and 16 of the Rush's 24 assists.
Woods, playing for the first time since a season-ending knee injury on Dec. 6, 2008, was 7-of-7 from the floor and made 6-of-7 free throws.
Cory Evans led Carver with 27 points, 21 in the second half, and Nicholas Hood scored 15. Evans made all five of his 3-pointers after the break.
Xavier outshot Carver 54 to 39 percent from the floor nd outrebounded the Cougars 48-25.
Landon Bussie grabbed a game-high seven rebounds for the Rush.
The Rush never trailed and got nine points from Andrew in the final six minutes of the first half to turn a tie at 19 into a 36-22 Xavier lead at the break.
Xavier scored 100 points for the first time since a 122-71 home victory against Wesley (Miss.) on Nov. 6, 2007. The Gold Rush has scored 100 points in three of its past five openers.
Xavier's next game will be a 7 p.m. road exhibition Thursday against NCAA Division I opponent Southern.
