Jamaan Kenner and
Devin Andrew scored 13 points apiece Monday to lead NAIA No. 10 Xavier University of Louisiana to an 85-66 men's basketball victory over city rival Loyola.
The Gold Rush, who climbed 10 spots in the national poll announced about two hours before tip-off, are 10-0 for the first time since 1983-84 and the second time since World War II. This was Xavier's 14th consecutive regular-season victory.
Kenner's points were a season best.
Wanto Joseph added a season-high 10 points and a career-high six assists for Xavier.
Ryan Brock scored 29 points but also committed seven turnovers for Loyola (5-5), which dropped its fourth straight at home. Chris Joseph scored a career-high 18 points, and Corey Gray had 10.
Andrew scored 12 points in the first half to lead the Rush to a 45-33 advantage at the break. Xavier committed 23 turnovers but outshot Loyola 59 to 43 percent from the floor — the Rush made 7-of-11 3-pointers — and outrebounded the Wolfpack 32-20. Xavier had a 41-3 advantage in bench scoring.
Anthony Simmons grabbed 12 rebounds for Xavier and has 25 in the last two games.
Xavier leads the series 28-4. The teams will meet again Jan. 15 at Xavier.
Xavier will break for fall semester final exams, then resume its schedule at 4 p.m. Dec. 18 at William Carey. The next home game will be Jan. 6 against Concordia (Ala.).
