Fifth-ranked Pilots beat Xavier with second-half rally

Box Score      NEW ORLEANS — Brance Davenport scored 15 points Saturday and led a second-half rally for NAIA No. 5 LSU-Shreveport in a 64-48 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference men's basketball victory over Xavier University of Louisiana.
     The Pilots (21-2 overall, 10-1 GCAC) trailed 25-21 at halftime, then Davenport scored 10 points in an 18-2 burst in the first five minutes to put the Pilots ahead to stay. Davenport made 3-pointers on the first two LSUS possessions after the break.
     Derrick Parker had 16 points and 15 rebounds for the Pilots, who won their eighth in a row and lead the conference by two games over William Carey and Belhaven. They ended Xavier's three-game winning streak.
     Michael Harvey, with 17 points, was the only double-figure scorer for Xavier (13-10, 4-7). Harvey's basket at 5:02 gave the Gold Rush its biggest lead, 21-16.
     LSUS outshot Xavier 41 to 32 percent from the floor and had a greater advantage in the second half, 61 to 29 percent.
     The final margin was the Pilots' largest lead of the game.
     Xavier has led at halftime in all five of its GCAC home games but has only one victory.
