Box Score      TOUGALOO, Miss. — Marquise Mems scored a career-high 30 points Saturday, and Tougaloo made 24 more free throws than Xavier University of Louisiana in the Bulldogs' 91-77 men's basketball victory.
     The Bulldogs (20-4, 3-1 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference), ranked 21st in NAIA Division I, have won five straight and 12 of their last 13 games. They snapped the nine-game win streak of the Gold Rush (23-3, 3-1).
     Tougaloo made 13 free throws in the final 2:01, finished 42-of-55 from the line and set a GCAC record for free throws made in a game. Mems, who also had five assists, two blocked shots and two steals, was 13-of-15 from the line. Xavier, the only team to beat Tougaloo since Dec. 4, made 18-of-26 free throws.
     The previous GCAC record for free throws made was 41 by Spring Hill against Dillard on March 7, 1997.
     Kadon Day scored 17 points and Juan Gray 16 for Tougaloo, and James Carter had 10 points and 13 rebounds.
     Cordell Hadnot led Xavier with a season-high 16 points. Devin Andrew scored 14, Kevin Miller 10, and Jeremy Lee had 13 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Xavier allowed its most points since a 91-81 home loss to LSU-Shreveport on Jan. 8, 2007.
     Xavier trailed 41-23 after Carter's basket of 3:19 of the first half and 44-33 at halftime, but the Gold Rush rallied to take a 56-53 lead, its largest of the game, on Hadnot's basket with 11:35 remaining. Then Mems and Day combined for 15 points in a decisive 17-2 run during the next 3½ minutes.
     The Gold Rush outshot the Bulldogs 41.2 to 38.6 percent from the floor and outrebounded them 41-35. The loss was just the fourth in the last 31 games for Xavier, which will travel to Mobile for a 7:30 p.m. game Thursday.
