NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana
shot well and spread the wealth Wednesday in a 92-57 men's basketball victory against Carver.
The Gold Rush (2-1) shot 54.5 percent from the floor had five double-figure scorers,
led by
Rayshawn Mart with 20 points,
Ed Carter with 17 and
Virgil Davison with 15.
Carter's 3-pointer with 6:29 remaining gave XULA its largest lead, 85-47.
The junior guard was dominant everywhere; he also had six rebounds, seven assists,
no turnovers and three steals in 17 minutes.
Carter made 5-of-7 3-pointers and has 13 made 3s in his last two home appearances.
Freshman
Cameron Wells was 6-of-6 from the floor and
scored 12 points for XULA, and
Cameron Dumas had 10 points, six assists and three steals.
Senior standout
William Loyd barely missed a second straight double-double;
he finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
Rayford Washington scored 21 points and Terrance Boykin 14
for Carver. The game was the Cougars' opener.
Attendance was 1,261 for the home opener.
XULA produced its most points since 2014 and largest winning margin since 2009 in a home opener.
XULA will travel to Alabama to play the University
of Mobile at 4 p.m. Saturday.
