Awaiting an elevator: Nuggets still 28th nationally

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball collected three more points than it had two weeks ago but remained among the "others receiving votes" at 28th place in the NAIA Division I coaches poll Tuesday.
The Gold Nuggets are 19-6 overall and in first place in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference at 9-1. They have victories against No. 11 Talladega and No. 25 Loyola — yet they're the only conference leader that's not in this week's top 25.
XULA took over first place in the GCAC Monday by defeating Talladega 62-55. Next for the Nuggets is a 3 p.m. Saturday game at Dillard, the GCAC's third-place team.
The Gold Nuggets will close the regular season with GCAC home games against Rust on Monday, SUNO on Feb. 20 and Philander Smith on Feb. 25. The GCAC Tournament will be March 1-3 at Jacksonville, Fla.
Columbia (Mo.) replaced Freed-Hardeman as the national No. 1.
