NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana
women's tennis kept intact some impressive numbers with a 5-0
victory Friday against William Woods.
Not only did the Gold Nuggets (12-3) win their
10th in a row — the NAIA's third-ranked team defeated
No. 6 — but they also:
• Won their 10th in a row at home —
5-0 this season.
• Defeated a ranked opponent for
the 16th time in their last 17 attempts — 6-0 this season.
• Defeated a top-10 opponent for
the eighth time in their last nine attempts — 3-0 this season.
• Won for the 28th time in their last 32 dual matches.
XULA should get a stronger challenge Saturday
when 9-2 Southern Miss of NCAA Division I visits at 2 p.m. The Gold Nuggets
are 0-3 all-time against the Golden Eagles.
The Gold Nuggets' doubles teams —

Charlene Goreau and

Yi Chen Pao — all won 8-2 against ranked opponents. Borodii made it 4-0 when she defeated
Julia Perez Wienese 6-0, 6-1, and Goreau clinched with a 6-3, 6-0 victory against
Zlata Shuraeva.
Borodii and Baklouti beat Ana Zavala and Shuraeva, No. 4 in last week's
Oracle ITA NAIA doubles rankings. Goreau and Charles-Alfred defeated No. 11
Wienese and Paige Smith, and De Vincenzis and Pao beat No. 18
Felicia Cesar and Chelsea Steward.
Wienese is ranked 27th in singles, and Shuraeva is ranked eighth.
