NEW ORLEANS — For the second time this season,
Xavier University of Louisiana's
William Loyd is the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference
Player of the Week in men's basketball.
Loyd — a a 6-foot-5 senior froward from Baton Rouge, La.,
and a 2016 graduate of Madison Preparatory Academy —is the winner for Jan. 6-12 after averaging 20.5 points,
five rebounds, 2.5 assists and one steal in Gold Rush victories against Texas College
and Philander Smith. Loyd scored 27 points at home against Texas College, then scored 14
in XULA's first victory at Philander Smith since 2014.
Loyd shot 59.3 percent from the floor in those games.
His seven free throws led XULA's 17-of-17 performance from the line against Texas College.
Loyd is averaging 15.8 points and a team-best 8.1 rebounds
in 18 games this season. He is shooting 57.3 percent from the floor.
Next for Loyd and the Gold Rush (14-4, 2-0 GCAC) will be a 7:30 p.m. Monday
game against conference and city rival SUNO at The Castle.
