MARIETTA, Ga. — Xavier University
of Louisiana opened its second season of competitive cheer with a victory Saturday against
Life University in the Running Eagles Classic.
XULA outscored Life 85.1 to 82.77.
"It was a good showing," XULA head coach
Glenn Caston said. "We have work to do to get us ready for the postseason, but I am
feeling good about this performance."
Caston cited sophomore
Teddie Reid and
freshman Tia Barrett for stellar performances.
"Tia and Teddie did a great job of stepping
up on the mat to keep the team together," Caston said.
Caston said he was proud of his
team's pyramid skills and excited about the opportunity to perform in a social-justice theme this season.
"I really like the way our team members use their
talents and convictions to amplify their voices while displaying their athleticism,"
Caston said.
Next for XULA will be a Feb. 12 home
meet at the Convocation Center with city rivals Loyola (cheer and dance)
and Dillard (dance).
