NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana men's basketball,
stung by a nine-point home loss three days earlier, bounced back with emphasis Friday in a 94-31
victory against Carver College of Atlanta.
XULA (2-1) led 42-9 at halftime — its fewest points allowed in a
half since 1945 — and carried that momentum to a Convocation Center record for winning margin.
"Our guys had a bad taste in their mouths from
the Loyola game Tuesday," XULA sixth-year head coach
Alfred Williams said. "This time
we did a much better job of competing, and our guys showed that they want to get better.
We hope to keep this momentum going."
Makye Richard and
Jathen Ross scored 15 points apiece for the
Gold Rush,
Rayshawn Mart scored 13, and
Jalen King had 10 points and 10 rebounds.
Antwon Ferrell led the Cougars (0-1) with 11 points but committed 13 of his
team's 36 turnovers. Carver is a member of
the National Christian College Athletic Association.
The Gold Rush led by 40-or-more points for the final 15 minutes. The final scoring play — a

3-pointer with 27 seconds remaining — gave XULA its largest lead of the game.
The 63-point winning margin tied for the fourth largest in
the program's history and was the largest since XULA's record 89-point victory — 116-27 —
against Wesley (Miss.) at The Barn on Nov. 15, 2004.
Next for XULA: 6:30 p.m. Monday in an exhibition at NCAA Division I Alcorn State.
