TALLADEGA, Ala. — Xavier University of Louisiana didn't start the second half the way it finished the first, and the result was a 59-51 loss Wednesday to Edward Waters in Gulf Coast Athletic Conference women's basketball group play.
XULA (6-6, 1-4) closed the first half with an 11-2 run to take a 28-25 lead at the break, but the Lady Tigers (8-4, 4-1) opened the second half with a 10-2 surge and never lost the lead thereafter.
It was the third GCAC loss in as many days for XULA. Two of those losses were by single digits to teams it defeated in non-league matchups, Dillard and Edward Waters.
"Going into this trip I thought we were in a good place and had a chance to get some more wins this week," XULA head coach
Bo Browder said. "But we turned the ball over too much, and we didn't rebound well. Those were two areas that surprised me. Had we done those things adequately, we could've come home 2-and-1."
Nia Bishop scored 12 points, and
Abryhia Irons had nine points and a career-best 12 rebounds.
O.C. Mbakop Ngassam had right points, seven rebounds and two blocks.
La'Quanza Glover scored 18 points, Emari Bell 15 anbd Teiyahna Hutchinson 14 for Edward Waters.
Edward Waters outshot XULA 46.4 to 32.1 percent from the floor in the second half and outscored XULA 15-6 in the third quarter.
