JACKSON, Tenn. —
Blair Frederick
struck out a season-high 12 batters, and
Antonio Rodriguez and
Co Co Simoneaux
hit home runs in Xavier University of Louisiana's 4-1 baseball victory against Lane
in the first game of a doubleheader Tuesday.
Frederick worked all seven innings, allowing
three hits and walking four. His first-inning wild pitch scored Chris O'Neal from
third with the first run, but XULA (23-6) responded with a run in the second inning,
two in the third and one in the fourth.
Jonathan Santos walked with the bases loaded
to tie the score, then XULA took the lead for good in the third on Rodriguez's home run
and a two-out infield error that scored
Tristan Rodriguez. Simoneaux followed in the fourth
with another bases-empty homer.
Lane (8-17) stranded runners in each of the last
four innings, two apiece in the fifth and seventh. Frederick struck out pinch-hitter Pharoah Smith
to end the game with runners on second and third.
Simoneaux had two of XULA's six hits.
Tristan Rodriguez,
Danny Coleman and
Dillon Cousin walked two times apiece.
XULA improved its winning streak to four
and won for the 12th time in 16 road games this season.
