MONTGOMERY, Ala. —
Xavier University of Louisiana baseball scored five runs in the fifth inning and sixth
in the sixth to steamroll Bluefield State 16-2 Saturday afternoon in the
Black College World Series at Riverwalk Stadium.
The game was halted after the seventh
inning because of the 10-run rule.
XULA (26-8) staved off elimination
in the double-elimination event and forced a same-day, winner-take-all rematch with Bluefield State (14-12)
for the championship. It was XULA's third consecutive victory
after losing 4-1 to Bluefield State Thursday night.
Middle infielders
Antonio Rodriguez
and
Jose Fulgencio combined for seven RBIs, four by Rodriguez, to lead a XULA
offense that produced 25 baserunners in seven innings.
Fulgencio had three hits,
and Simoneaux,
Antonio Rodriguez,
Tristan Rodriguez,
Blair Frederick
and
Austin Anderson had two hits apiece.
Courtland Posey walked three times.
Seven of XULA's 16 hits went for extra bases.
Co Co Simoneaux hit a pair of doubles, and Fulgencio and
Tristan Rodriguez homered.
Trey Clark allowed three hits and walked three
in a complete game. It was Clark's second victory in 18 hours; he pitched the final two innings
Friday in XULA's 7-5 come-from-behind victory against Florida Memorial.
The winning margin was XULA's second largest this season;
it won 15-0 at home April 9 against Mississippi University for Women.
