DeSOTO, Texas — Xavier University of
Louisiana volleyball defeated Paul Quinn 25-13, 25-17, 25-13 Friday to give
Pat Kendrick
her 100th victory as XULA head coach.
Kendrick is 100-28 in her fifth season at XULA
and the program's all-time winningest coach. Her overall record — including
30 seasons (1985-2014) at NCAA Division I George Mason — is 567-467.
It was the first of three Red River Athletic
Conference matches in two days for the Gold Nuggets, who will play Saturday against
Huston-Tillotson at 10 a.m. and Wiley at 2 p.m. at DeSoto Recreation Center in suburban
Dallas. XULA is 2-4 overall and 2-0 in its first
RRAC season.
Angela Egonu, a third-year player in her first XULA
start, led the Gold Nuggets with career highs of 10 kills and nine digs. She also served two aces.
Egonu produced seven first-set kills.
XULA's .278 hitting percentage and 11 aces
were season highs. The Gold Nuggets hit .517 with 18 kills in the first set.
Seven XULA players served an ace.
Also contributing for XULA were
Kennedy Wade with nine kills, an ace, two assists and five digs;
Vivica Price-Spraggins
with eight kills, a .727 hitting percentage, three aces and a block;
Taylor McGee with seven kills;
Semira Blair with 22 assists and an ace;
Emi Riglioni
with 14 assists, a kill, two aces and seven digs; and
Linda Mungai with 13 digs.
It was the first-ever volleyball meeting between the HBCUs.
Paul Quinn is 2-13 overall and 0-3 in the RRAC.
