LSUS defeats Gold Rush

        SHREVEPORT, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana committed 30 personal fouls and 25 turnovers, both season highs, in a 70-60 Red River Athletic Conference men's basketball loss Saturday at LSU-Shreveport.
        The Gold Rush (11-4 overall, 2-3 RRAC, ranked 19th in the NAIA) trailed 31-20 at halftime and never got closer than five points thereafter.
        Makye Richard scored nine points for XULA. It was the first time since December 2016 that the Gold Rush did not produce a double-figure scorer.
        Leondre Washington scored 20 points, 17 in the second half, for the Pilots (11-6 overall, 4-1 RRAC).
        XULA made a season-high 19 free throws for the second consecutive game, but LSUS made 27 in 35 attempts. The Gold Rush made one 3-pointer, a season low, in six attempts. XULA limited LSUS to 39.2 percent from the floor and outrebounded the Pilots 41-32.
        XULA will visit Louisiana Christian (formerly Louisiana College) in an RRAC game at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
