Da'Jha Virgil made 3-of-3 3-pointers
in the third quarter Saturday to spark Xavier University of Louisiana in a 61-58
women's basketball victory against Jarvis Christian.
XULA extended its season-high win streak to six games.
Virgil made two treys during a 10-3 surge late in the third
quarter that put the Gold Nuggets (12-5 overall, 7-1 Red River Athletic Conference) ahead to stay.
Virgil scored a season-high 14 points,
Kyla Duncan a season-high 11 and
Destinee Pointer 10 for XULA, and
O.C. Mbakop Ngassam had eight points, 12 rebounds and a career-high-tying six blocks.
Pointer produced game highs of six assists and four steals.
Joi Reed had 16 points, nine rebounds and four rebounds for
the Lady Bulldogs (3-9, 2-6), who rallied from a 20-5 first-quarter deficit without two of
their top three scorers. Briana Page (18.5 points per game) is out for the season because of
an injury, and Daeja Monroe (12.9) is expected to play next week.
XULA will play LSU-Alexandria at 5:30 p.m. Thursday
at XULA's Convocation Center. It will be a doubleheader; the XULA men will play RRAC leader
and NAIA No. 11 LSUA at 7:30 p.m.
