NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University
of Louisiana women's basketball improved its season-best win streak to seven Thursday
with a 74-39 home victory against LSU-Alexandria.
Nia Bishop scored 16 points,
Abryhia Irons 15 and
Victory Udechi 12 for the Gold Nuggets (13-5 overall, 8-1 Red River Athletic Conference).
Udechi had 10 rebounds and four steals. Bishop had nine rebounds and three assists,
and Irons missed only one of her 10 shots and committed no turnovers in 31 minutes.
XULA outscored LSUA in every quarter, includng
23-8 in the second and 18-6 in the fourth. The Gold Nuggets outshot the Generals 45.9
to 26.9 percent from the floor.
Additional XULA contributors were
Jaleah LaFargue with nine points, three assists, two blocks and four steals and
O.C. Mbakop Ngassam and
Jordyn Manning with eight points apiece. LaFargue's points were her season high.
Kelsey Thaxton scored 10 points for LSUA (4-13, 4-4).
The teams were a combined 0-of-14 on 3-pointers.
LSUA had 10 of those misses.
It was the second time in two weeks that XULA defeated LSUA by more than 30 points.
The winning margin was the Gold Nuggets' largest in a conference home game in four years.
It was the first time in five games that XULA won by double digits; the Gold Nuggets'
previous four victories were by a combined 13 points.
XULA is in second place in the RRAC.
Its only league loss was to first-place Our Lady of the Lake.
Next for the Gold Nuggets wlll
be a 2 p.m. Saturday home game against RRAC opponent LSU-Shreveport.
