NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana dominated the first and
third quarters Saturday in a 68-48 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory against LSU-Shreveport.
The Gold Nuggets (14-5 overall, 9-1 RRAC)
have an eight-game winning streak for the first time in eight seasons.
O.C. Mbakop Ngassam, the reigning RRAC Player of the Week,
had game highs of 17 points and nine rebounds for XULA.
Abryhia Irons had 14 points, seven rebounds,
five assists and two steals for XULA, and
Nia Bishop had 13 points, three assists and three steals.
XULA outscored LSUS 24-7 in the first quarter and 21-7 during
a third quarter in which the Gold Nuggets made 8-of-9 from the floor.
Kiara Collins scored 13 points for the
Pilots (11-11, 6-4). XULA trails RRAC leader Our Lady of the Lake by one game in the loss column.
