NEW ORLEANS —
Abryhia Irons' sensational stat line against Mobile helped the Xavier University of Louisiana senior guard earn Red River Athletic Conference Player of the Week in women's basketball for Nov. 21-27.
The RRAC announced the award Monday.
Irons against Mobile became the only XULA woman in the last 10 seasons to reach 15 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and five steals in the same game. Her totals in the Gold Nuggets' 63-61 home victory Nov. 22 were 17 points, 10 rebounds, five assists and eight steals. Her points were a season high, and her steals were a career high.
One day earlier, Irons produced 10 points, six rebounds and four assists in a 71-58 victory at city and HBCU rival Dillard.
Irons — from Boutte, La., and a graduate of John Curtis Christian School — needs six assists to become the third XULA woman to reach 600 points, 500 rebounds and 200 assists in a career.
XULA is 6-1 with a five-game winning streak after a 67-57 home victory Monday in its RRAC opener against Louisiana Christian. The Gold Nuggets' next five games:
