Another second-half rally gives Gold Nuggets sixth consecutive victory

HOBBS, N.M. — Shylia McGee scored a season-high-tying 21 points Saturday to help Xavier University of Louisiana rally for an 81-72 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory against the University of the Southwest.
The Gold Nuggets (7-1 overall, 2-0 RRAC) have won six straight — the last three after trailing at halftime.
The Mustangs (2-6, 0-2) led 45-40 at the break, but XULA took control by outscoring them 20-6 in the third quarter.
Ashanti LaVergne and Abryhia Irons scored 11 points apiece for the Gold Nuggets, and Nia Bishop scored 10. Southwest had five double-figure scorers, including Awreona Ransom with 15 and Sierra Smith with 13.
The 7-1 record is XULA's best to start a season since 9-1 in 2012-13.
