Gold Nuggets lose at Northwestern State; Sunday at South Alabama postponed

        NATCHITOCHES, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana women's tennis, ranked sixth in the NAIA, opened its spring-semester schedule Saturday with a 7-0 loss to NCAA Division I Northwestern State.
        The Lady Demons (1-1) won all nine matches and all 15 sets. They clinched on the third singles court when Tjasa Klevisar defeated Mbali Langa 6-2, 6-3.
        The closest match was at No. 5 singles, where Dorota Szczygielska defeated Valentina Largacha 6-4, 6-4.
        The Gold Nuggets' Sunday competition at South Alabama was postponed because of expected all-day rain. Next for both XULA teams will be the ITA NAIA Indoor National Championships at Overland Park Racquet Club in Overland Park, Kan. On Friday the Gold Nuggets will play NAIA No. 3 LSU-Alexandria at 3 p.m., and the Gold Rush, ranked fifth in the NAIA, will play No. 3 Tennessee Wesleyan at 6:30 p.m.
