NEW ORLEANS — City rival Loyola made 9 of its first 11 shots from the floor Monday and rolled to an 82-58 women's basketball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana at The Den.
Loyola, ranked ninth in the NAIA, has won all 14 of its games this season by double-digits. The Wolf Pack ended the two-game winning streak of the Gold Nuggets (9-5), who will resume their Red River Athletic Conference schedule with road games at 5:30 p.m. Thursday against Texas A&M-Texarkana and 2 p.m. Saturday at Paul Quinn.
Ashanti LaVergne, with a season-high 15 points, was XULA's only double-figure scorer. LaVergne was 4-of-6 from the floor and 7-of-10 from the line in 23 minutes.
Four Loyola starters scored in double figures. Jazmene McMillan scored 17 points, Taylor Thomas 16, Sandra Cannady 13 and Kennedy Hansberry 12.
Thomas scored 10 points and Cannady eight — they combined to make 12 of 14 shots — to guide the Wolf Pack to a 43-24 halftime lead. XULA played better thereafter and outshot Loyola 63.2 to 44.8 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes.

Nina German scored nine points apiece, and
Mary Wilkins scored eight points on 4-of-4 from the floor for XULA.
Overall Loyola outshot the Gold Nuggets 54.7 to 46.5 percent from the floor and outrebounded them 34-17. Loyola made 23-of-31 free throws, and XULA made 14-of-22. Loyola was plus-4 in turnovers, committing 20 and gaining 24.
