Red River Athletic Conference standings
METAIRIE, La. —
Houston-Victoria scored two second-half goals Thursday to rally for a
2-1 men's soccer victory against Xavier University of Louisiana
that knocked the Gold Rush out of a first-place tie in the Red River Athletic
Conference.
The loss was the first ever at home
for the Gold Rush (9-3 overall, 8-2 RRAC), a first-year varsity program.
In its previous four home games, XULA outscored opponents 10-1.
XULA spent nearly 43 minutes
with the lead, the result of a
Fabricio Reis goal during the 20th minute.
But the Jaguars (9-3-1, 7-3) responded with Osiel Robledo's goal in the
62nd minute, then won it on Yahir Pena's goal in the 77th minute.
Houston-Victoria snapped
a two-game losing streak and scored more goals against XULA than it had in its previous
three games combined (1).
Neither RRAC co-leader won
Thursday. Louisiana Christian played a scoreless tie at home
during the evening with Texas A&M-San Antonio, but the Wildcats will
enter this weekend with a half-game lead over the Gold Rush. XULA will close
its regular season at LCU one week from Saturday.
Next for XULA will be an
11:30 a.m. Sunday RRAC home game at Lafreniere Park against Huston-Tillotson.
