WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. - XULA's historic soccer season ended on a bittersweet note Saturday, as the Gold Rush fell 1-0 in a nailbiter against the University of the Cumberlands.
Xavier (13-5-2) fought hard and put up quite a spirited defensive effort, but a 30th-minute goal by the Patriots (9-5-4) was the difference in the second round of the NAIA National Tournament.
Keeper Breno Zanolla made 7 saves, and his XULA teammates fended off 10 other Cumberlands shots.
The Guld Rush soccer team, which is in only its third year of existence, made its second consecutive appearance in the national tournament and recently won its first Red River Athletics Conference Tournament Championship.
