Red River Athletic Conference standings
ALEXANDRIA, La. — Xavier University of
Louisiana women's soccer defeated LSU-Alexandria 1-0 Thursday to take
sole possession of first place in the Red River Athletic Conference.
Freshman forward
Amora Altmon scored the goal —
her team-leading 12th of the season — in the 33rd minute.
The Gold Nuggets (10-4 overall, 10-2 RRAC)
have 30 points in the RRAC's ranking system — three points for a victory,
one point for a tie, zero points for a loss in conference games — and would win the regular-season
championship with a victory Saturday in a 6 p.m. game at Louisiana Christian.
Theresa Wiesiolek recorded six saves
to earn the victory. XULA stymied Remmie Ferla,
who entered as the RRAC leader with 32 points — two points for goals, one point for assists
— and was tied for the conference lead with 14 goals. Ferla attempted none of the Generals' 11 shots.
XULA became the first team this season to shut out LSUA.
The Gold Nuggets won their third straight, all by shutout.
LSUA (12-5, 9-3) and LSU-Shreveport still
have a shot at a share of the RRAC championship, and Texas A&M-Texarkana
could win it outright with victories in its final two games and a XULA loss.
