Gold Nuggets eliminated in RRAC semifinal, but season will continue at NAIA nationals

TEXARKANA, Texas — Fourth-seeded LSU-Alexandria did its damage in the first half Thursday to eliminate top-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana 2-0 in the women's soccer semifinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Generals (15-5) snapped the season-high five-game win streak of the Gold Nuggets (12-5). But it's merely a pause in the schedule for XULA. By virtue of winning the RRAC regular-season championship Oct. 28, the Gold Nuggets earned an automatic bid to NAIA nationals, which will begin next week. XULA's opponent and venue will be announced Monday.
LSUA's game totals were four shots, three of them on goal — and all in the first half. Remmie Ferla scored in the ninth minute, and Pauline Gockeritz scored in the 33rd.
Avery Wright made six saves for the Generals, four in the first half.
XULA's starters were Amora Altmon, Britni Belmonte, Julia de Souza, Gabriela Gonzalez, Abby Martin, Grete Nelson, Maureen Owusu, Millicent Owusu, Luci Schroeder, Amelia Thompson and Theresa Wiesiolek.
The shutout victory was LSUA's 10th of the season. XULA was shut out for the third time in its debut season. The Gold Nuggets won 1-0 Oct. 26 at LSUA.
LSUA will meet third-seeded LSU-Shreveport in the final at 1 p.m. Saturday. LSUS defeated second-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana 1-0 in the second semifinal.
