HOBBS, N.M. —
Mecolett Bradley had four RBIs,
Kadence Means three and
Chenai Keyes two Saturday to lead Xavier University of Louisiana to a 12-9
victory against Southwest (N.M.) that earned the Gold Nuggets a split of their
Red River Athletic Conference softball doubleheader.
The 12 runs were XULA's most in a game this a season.
The Mustangs won the opener 4-3.
XULA (10-18 overall, 4-10 RRAC) built a 9-0 lead
through 3 1/2 innings of the finale. Bradley doubled twice to drive in three runs,
and Means hit a pair of RBI singles. It was 12-5 in the sixth after Keyes'
RBI double, Means' RBI triple and Bradley's RBI single.
Keyes was 4-for-4 with four runs and two RBIs in the finale, and Bradley, Means and
Madison Winston had three hits apiece. Keyes doubled in both games.
Hannah Campo homered and had three RBIs for
Southwest (9-20, 4-12).
XULA led 3-0 through four innings of the first game,
then Southwest rallied with two runs in the fifth inning and two in the sixth.
Amanda Perez doubled home Felicity Villanueva to tie the score at 3,
and Southwest won it when Mikayla Martinez's sacrifice fly scored Perez.
Winning pitcher Marley Moralez worked a complete game and retired XULA in order in the seventh.
The Gold Nuggets'
Vannity Robles pitched two complete games.
XULA will resume its RRAC schedule with
doubleheaders at Wesley Barrow Stadium against Jarvis Christian at 2 p.m. CDT Thursday
and Texas College at 1 p.m. Friday.
