NEW ORLEANS — Jarvis Christian
swept a Red River Athletic Conference softball doubleheader Thursday against
Xavier University of Louisiana with 2-0 and 5-4 victories at Wesley Barrow Stadium.
XULA's Friday RRAC home doubleheader against
Texas College was postponed because of expected rain. A makeup date has not been determined.
Maya Shelby pitched the first-game shutout,
then the Bulldogs scored three times in the fifth inning and twice in the sixth to erase
the Gold Nuggets' 4-0 lead.
In the opener, XULA stranded six baserunners.
Kadence Means was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk.
Vivionna Robles allowed three hits and one earned run,
and she struck out six in seven innings.
The Gold Nuggets built their second-game
lead on a first-inning unearned run and three in the second.
Kiera Evans hit a run-scoring double,
and
Madison Winston and
Chenai Keyes hit RBI singles.
Jarvis Christian tied the finale in the sixth on Alexis Uresti's RBI single,
then Jaelyn Nuncio's third hit of the game, a double to left field, scored Uresti
with the winning run.
Monique Montes, the second-game winning pitcher, walked five but did not allow a hit or a run
in five relief innings. For XULA,
Alexis Richardson had two hits, and
Shay Angelle and
Melane Jimmie walked twice apiece.
Robles and her twin,
Vannity Robles, were honored in a senior-day ceremony after the doubleheader.
XULA is 10-20 overall and 4-12 in the RRAC; Jarvis Christian is 22-16 and 6-10.
The Gold Nuggets lost for the fifth time in their
last six games and are 1-7 this season in RRAC home games.
