NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Xavier Reaves was announced Thursday as a 2022-23 All-Louisiana men's basketball third-team selection.
A Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of
college publicists and sports media selected the team and major awards.
Reaves — a 6-foot-6 fifth-year forward from
Burtonsville, Md., and a graduate of Paint Branch High School —
averaged 13 points, 8.7 rebounds, 1.5 assists and 2.2 steals, shot 56 percent from the
floor and had nine double-doubles in 26 games for a 23-9 Gold Rush team that won the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament
and, for the third consecutive season, reached the second round of NAIA nationals.
Reaves was MVP of the RRAC Tournament.
He produced 20 points and 10 rebounds in a 79-63
title-game upset of top-seeded, 17th-ranked LSU-Shreveport.
Reaves is the only XULA man in the last 26 seasons with two double-doubles or two
consecutive double-doubles in a conference tournament.
In five games against the RRAC's other 20-game winners,
LSUS and Texas A&M-Texarkana, Reaves averaged 15.8 points and 12 rebounds.
All-Louisiana men's basketball teams
date to the early 1970s. Reaves is XULA's 13th to be chosen to the third team or higher.
