Campbellsville rallies, defeats Gold Nuggets 15-10 in the 5th

        CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. — Campbellsville rallied Saturday for a 22-25, 23-25, 25-18, 25-12, 15-10 women's volleyball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in the Campbellsville Labor Day Tournament.
        The Gold Nuggets, in their second week of competition during the 2023 season, finished 1-2 in this four-team event. XULA on Friday lost in four sets to Marian (Ind.) and won in five sets against Life.
        XULA (3-4) will play its home and Red River Athletic Conference opener at 7 p.m. Friday against Paul Quinn in the Convocation Center. The Gold Nuggets and Lady Tigers will play a second match at noon Saturday.
        Amani Mason had 17 kills, 14 digs and three blocks and became the first freshman to open a XULA career with three consecutive double-doubles. Sydney Murray had 11 kills, an ace and 13 digs, and Taylor Parker had seven kills and six blocks.
        Also for XULA, Ruxandra Flueras had a match-high 22 digs, Bengisu Kazazlar had three kills, 31 assists, nine digs and a block, Charity Metcalf had nine assists and 10 digs, Stella Dineva had three aces, a match high, and six kills and four blocks, and Kennedi Bell had three kills and three blocks.
        Morgan Furness and Brooke Hager had 17 kills apiece for the Tigers, 3-8 overall but 3-0 in the tournament. Furness hit .667 in 24 attacks, and Hager had nine blocks. Camryn Rich had 55 assists, and Marisa Gallardo had 20 digs.
        XULA outhit Campbellsville .195 to .126 to build its two-set lead, but the Tigers outhit the Gold Nuggets .337 to .055 thereafter. XULA never led in any of the final three sets.
        It was the second time in eight days that the Gold Nuggets lost after winning the first two sets.
