Bengisu Kazazlar and
Ruxandra Flueras led Xavier University of Louisiana Friday in a 25-11, 25-19, 25-22 Red River Athletic Conference women's volleyball victory against Paul Quinn.
It was the Gold Nuggets' home opener, and it was the RRAC opener for both teams. XULA (4-4) and Paul Quinn (3-2) will meet at noon Saturday at XULA to conclude their two-match series.
Wade, a third-team NAIA All-American a year ago, hit .280 with a match-high 11 kills. Kazazlar's 22 assists and five aces were match highs, and she had 11 digs in her fifth double-double this season. Flueras produced a match-high 12 digs, six in the third set.
Also sparking the Gold Nuggets were
Stella Dineva with 10 kills,
Sydney Murray with eight kills,
Maddie Meyer with four aces and
Charity Metcalf with 12 assists. Dineva had six of XULA's 18 third-set kills.
Alaya Lecoq had six kills and two blocks for Paul Quinn, and Chloe Fields had eight digs.
XULA outhit Paul Quinn .240 to .013 and had advantages of 43-15 in kills, 41-15 in assists, 13-4 in aces and 44-30 in digs. The Gold Nuggets hit .371 in the third set.
XULA is 53-0 all-time in the Convocation Center against regular-season conference opponents.
Six other teams played RRAC openers Friday. Our Lady of the Lake won 25-11, 25-14, 25-13 at Texas College, Texas A&M-Texarkana won 25-20, 25-17, 25-20 at home against Huston-Tillotson, and Louisiana Christian won 25-21, 25-18, 25-21 at Jarvis Christian.
