Xavier University of Louisiana's defense dominated again in a 66-36
Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory Saturday against
Paul Quinn.
It was the first time in 12 years
that the Gold Nuggets allowed less than 40 points in consecutive conference games.
The Gold Nuggets (14-4 overall, 11-2 RRAC)
remained tied for second place in the RRAC with LSU-Alexandria, a 61-45 winner at
home against Texas A&M-Texarkana. League-leading LSU-Shreveport improved to 12-0
in the RRAC after its 86-65 victory at Louisiana Christian.
XULA scored the first 13 points, and its winning margin was the largest of the game.
Leading XULA were
Shylia McGee
with 17 points and eight rebounds and
Patricia Sosa Lora with 10 points and nine rebounds.
Teammates
Taylor Dewitt and
Jaleah LaFargue grabbed nine rebounds apiece,
and Lafargue had four assists.
Ahlura Lofton had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Lady Tigers (3-16, 2-12),
Canai McPherson had 10 points and eight rebounds, and Marquise Nelson
blocked five shots.
XULA limited the Lady Tigers to 19 percent from the floor
and outrebounded them 64-40. The Gold Nuggets made a season-best 84.2 percent of their free throws —
16 of 19. Sosa Lora made six free throws, her season high, in eight attempts.
XULA increased its home win streak against HBCUs to 22 games.
Overall the Gold Nuggets have won 24 of their last 28 at home.
The Gold Nuggets will play RRAC games
at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at Texas College and 2 p.m. Saturday at Jarvis Christian. The next home
game will start at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 6 against North American at XULA's Convocation Center.
