TYLER, Texas —
Xavier University of Louisiana women's basketball earned its fourth consecutive
victory, a 75-66 Red River Athletic Conference decision Thursday against
Texas College.
The streak is the Gold Nuggets'
longest since winning their first seven games this season.
The Gold Nuggets (15-4 overall, 12-2 RRAC)
remained tied for second place in the RRAC with LSU-Alexandria, which beat
Southwest (N.M.) 66-57 on the road. League-leading LSU-Shreveport improved to 14-0
in the RRAC after its 104-59 home victory against Our Lady of the Lake.
Shylia McGee scored 13 points,
Jordyn Manning 12,
Taylor Dewitt nine and
Sierra Headquist eight for XULA. McGee,
Patricia Sosa Lora,
Jaleah LaFargue
and
Zaria Harleaux grabbed five rebounds apiece, and
Mary Wilkins had five of the Gold Nuggets' 18 steals.
Manning made a season-best three 3-pointers in four attempts.
For Texas College (5-14, 3-12), Cree McLemore had 16 points and five steals,
Te'Aire Hambrick scored 12 points, and Jan'Aa Johnson scored 10.
McGee's 3-pointer in the eighth minute put XULA ahead to stay.
The Gold Nuggets led 35-26 at halftime and by 20 points twice in the second half.
The Gold Nuggets will stay on the road
and play RRAC opponent Jarvis Christian at 2 p.m. Saturday in Hawkins, Texas.
