Saints end Gold Nuggets' lengthy campus win streak

NEW ORLEANS — Our Lady of the Lake defeated Xavier University of Louisiana 25-23, 17-25, 21-25, 25-23, 15-8 Friday to halt one of the longest winning streaks in women's volleyball.
The Saints ended the Gold Nuggets' 70-match win streak in conference matches on their campus. The streak began in 2010.
Freshman Anais Velasquez hit .333 with 16 kills for the Saints (19-7 overall, 12-1 Red River Athletic Conference), and Camila Ramirez had 15 kills.
Freshman Kamea Uitenham had 23 kills — the most in a match by a XULA player this season — Taylor Parker had 14 kills and six blocks, and Kennedi Bell and Bengisu Kazazlar had five blocks apiece.
Ruzandra Flueras, honored along with Stella Dineva in a prematch senior ceremony, produced a rare libero double-double: 22 digs and 10 assists.
XULA (13-14, 10-3) outhit OLLU .160 to .137. The teams combined for 62 attack errors.
XULA and OLLU will meet at noon Saturday at the Convocation Center to conclude their two-match series. The regular season will end next week.
