SAN ANTONIO, Texas —
Third-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana women's volleyball, led by freshman
Kamea Uitenham's
18 kills and 10 digs, defeated sixth-seeded Jarvis Christian 25-17, 17-25,
25-19, 25-18 Friday in the opening round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
The Gold Nuggets (17-14) will play
the host, second-seeded Our Lady of the Lake (21-8), in the semifinals at 7 p.m. CST Friday.
That winner will play top-seeded Texas A&M-Texarkana or fourth-seeded Louisiana Christian
for the championship at 1 p.m. Saturday.
Uitenham hit .293 in 41 attacks.
It was her fifth consecutive match with 15-or-more kills; Uitenham has 91 during that time.
Taylor Parker had 11 kills and
Kennedy Campbell
nine for XULA.
Laila Person and
Bengisu Kazazlar served two aces apiece. Parker and
Kennedi Bell had three blocks apiece. Kazazlar had match highs of 43 assists and 14 digs.
Charity Metcalf had 12 digs, and Person had 10.
Kiah Barron had eight kills for the Bulldogs
(14-14), and Shayla Montemayor hit .438 with seven kills.
XULA outhit Jarvis Christian .190 to .059.
The Gold Nuggets hit .275 in the sets they won.
Louisiana Christian rallied
for a 21-25, 25-23, 15-25, 25-15, 15-10 victory against fifth-seeded Paul Quinn
in the other first-round match.
