STAFFORD, Texas —
Jathen Ross had 20 points and six 3s, both season highs, and Xavier University of Louisiana
rallied in the final 16 minutes Thursday for a 68-58 Red River Athletic Conference
men's basketball victory against North American.
The XULA men (3-2 overall, 2-1 RRAC) won their
third straight. The Gold Rush will stay on the road and play RRAC opponent Huston-Tillotson at 3 p.m. CST Saturday.
North American led 43-34 with 16:47 remaining
after Oakley Lewis' basket, then XULA took control with a 20-4 run during the next
nine minutes.
Omarion Bodrick's basket at 8:35 put the Gold Rush ahead to stay at 49-47.
Ross scored the final five points of the run.
Ross, who did not start, was 7-of-10 from the floor
and 6-of-8 on 3s in 23 minutes.
Lance Williams scored 12 points, Bodrick nine
and
James Weathers eight for XULA. Bodrick, Williams and
Seviuhn Turner had three steals apiece.
Joseph Cormier scored 14 points
and Jamarric Hammond 11 for the Stallions (3-4, 0-3), who dropped their fourth in a row.
XULA shot 53.2 percent from the floor
and made nine 3s, both season highs.
