AUSTIN, Texas —
Xavier University of Louisiana's defense dominated Saturday
in a 70-48 Red River Athletic Conference men's basketball victory against
Huston-Tillotson.
The Gold Rush (4-2 overall, 3-1 RRAC)
limited the Rams (0-6, 0-4) to 21.1 percent shooting from the floor.
XULA's 17-point halftime lead was its largest ever in a Red River road game.
The victory was the fourth in a row
for XULA and its third on the road in six days.
Seviuhn Turner,
James Weathers and
Lance Williams
scored 10 points apiece for the Gold Rush, and
Omarion Bodrick blocked six shots.
Bodrick is the ninth Gold Rush player to block six shots in a game and the first
since teammate
Corey Dunning in January 2021.
Bodrick's fast-break basket with 11:37 remaining gave XULA its largest lead, 53-28.
Charles Hallmon scored 18 points for Huston-Tillotson
(0-6, 0-4). The Rams have a 10-game losing streak dating to last season.
XULA will play host to NAIA No. 6 LSU-Alexandria (6-0), the RRAC
regular-season and tournament champion a year ago, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Convocation Center. It will be a doubleheader;
the women of XULA and LSUA will tip off at 5:30 p.m.
