NAIA competitive cheer nationals history

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana will seek its second national title in three years at the 2024 Nfinity NAIA Competitive Cheer National Championship Friday and Saturday at Ypsilanti, Mich.
XULA will compete fourth out of 15 teams at approximately 4:30 p.m. EDT Friday in the preliminary round. Finals will start at 10 a.m. Saturday. Eastern Michigan's George Gervin GameAbove Center is the venue.
Final rankings will be based on 25 percent of a team's Friday score and 75 percent of a team's Saturday score.
XULA qualified for nationals for the fourth consecutive year. The Gold is a fifth-year varsity program that won the title in 2022 — the first XULA team to win an NAIA-sponsored national championship in any sport — placed fifth in 2021 and sixth in 2023.
The Gold's athlete travel roster consists of Kelsea Allen, Kendall Baggett, Kennedy Baggett, Syre Baker, Kaitlyn Banks, Tia Barrett, Samantha Benton, Lauren Bradfield, Gabrielle Brightmon, Amiyah Chapman, Kennedy Commings, Taylor Curley, Britney Dixon, Kennedy Dunlap, Kennedy Guy, Dorian Harris, Chase Hubbard, Spencer Porter, Cyrus Riddle, Kirstin Shears, Dylan Sonnier, Cameron Speed, Antonio Underwood and Kelsey White.
Fifteen teams qualified, including all previous champions. The others are St. Ambrose (2023), Oklahoma City (2021, 2017), Concordia (Mich.) (2019) and Missouri Valley (2018).
The remainder of the field consists of Cumberlands, Dickinson State, Florida Memorial, Georgetown (Ky.), Indiana Wesleyan — the 2022 runner-up — MidAmerica Nazarene, Midland, Northwestern (Iowa), Saint Mary (Kan.) and Tennessee Southern.
XULA ranks third in points per performance this season with 94.05 out of a possible 100. Dickinson State is No. 1 at 94.80, St. Ambrose is second at 94.18, Oklahoma City is fourth at 91.85, and Saint Mary is fifth at 91.52.
XULA produced the top score, 97.80, on the second day of the Thresher Invitational Feb. 17 at North Newton, Kan., and finished ahead of Oklahoma City, St. Ambrose, Dickinson State, Saint Mary, Indiana Wesleyan and Northwestern, which were the 2-7 teams.
