        NEW ORLEANS — Allana Capella's four kills in the final set Thursday led NAIA No. 7 Columbia (Mo.) to a 21-25, 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 15-6 women's volleyball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana in the Big Easy Blastoff.
        There will be five more matches Friday in the three-day, six-team event, including XULA against Marian (Ind.) at 7:30 p.m. The Gold Nuggets will play at 2:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday.
        Capella's attacking gave the Cougars (3-3) an 8-2 lead in the fifth.
        Five Cougars reached double-figure kills, led by Agatha Emanuelle with 13 and Capella with 12. Emanuelle hit .500 in 24 attacks.
        Kamea Uitenham had 17 kills, Sydney Murray 14 and Taylor Parker 10 for XULA (1-4), which has lost four in a row, the last two in five sets. Olivia Arroyo served three aces, and Ruxandra Flueras had 23 digs.
        Columbia outhit XULA .239 to .198 and had an 66-52 advantage in kills. The Gold Nuggets served a season-best nine aces — Murray and Flueras had two apiece — and had an 8-2 advantage in blocks. Parker had five blocks and hit .421.
        In the other Thursday match, Emma Hirchak hit .417 with eight kills to lead Marian (Ind.) in a 25-17, 26-24, 25-14 victory against Loyola (N.O.). No player reached double-figure kills, and Marian outhit Loyola .225 to .038 with a 40-27 advantage in kills.
        The other Friday matches: Loyola vs. Campbellville at 9:30 a.m., Campbellsville vs. MidAmerican Nazarene at noon, Columbia vs. Marian at 2:30 p.m. and Loyola vs. MidAmerica Nazarene at 5.
