TEXARKANA, Texas — Sophomore outside hitter Kaitlyn Cabral
produced six kills in the final set Friday to help Texas A&M-Texarkana clinch a
25-23, 25-23, 16-25, 25-22 women's volleyball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana.
It was the Red River Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
The Gold Nuggets (3-10) and Eagles (5-9) will meet at noon Saturday at TAMUT's Patterson Student Center
to conclude their two-match series.
Taylor Parker hit .500 with 15 kills, a season high, and five blocks for XULA.
Kamea Uitenham had 11 kills, 14 digs and three blocks,
Bengisu Kazazlar had 36 assists, 16 digs and two blocks,
and
Ruxandra Flueras had 19 digs.
Cabral had 12 kills and a match-high 21 digs for TAMUT,
and Alanna Deering had 11 kills.
TAMUT won the first set after trailing 12-7 and 23-21.
The Eagles' 7-1 run erased XULA's only fourth-set lead, 6-5.
In the other RRAC openers Friday:
• Jarvis Christian won 26-24, 25-15, 21-25, 21-25, 15-13 at Huston-Tillotson.
• Paul Quinn won 25-14, 25-18, 25-13 at Texas College.
• Louisiana Christian won 25-17, 25-12, 25-18 at Southwest (N.M.)
