Gold Nuggets win in 4 at Southwest

HOBBS, N.M. — Freshman Kamea Uitenham and sophomore Taylor Parker combined for more than half of Xavier University of Louisiana's 53 kills Friday in an 18-25, 25-14, 25-23, 25-22 Red River Athletic Conference women's volleyball victory against the University of the Southwest.
The Gold Nuggets (4-11 overall, 1-2 RRAC) and Mustangs (1-6, 1-4) will meet at noon MDT Saturday to conclude their two-match series.
Uitenham produced 16 kills, and Parker had 13 to help the Gold Nuggets snap a two-match losing streak. Olivia Arroyo had seven kills, and Bengisu Kazazlar, Stella Dineva and Kennedi Bell had five apiece.
Dineva's kill brought XULA to match point, then a Southwest attack error ended it. The Gold Nuggets won the final set after trailing 10-4.
Kazazlar served two aces, and Parker, Uitenham, Arroyo and Dineva had one apiece. Flueras had 24 digs, Uitenham produced a season-high 16, and Kazazlar and Arroyo had 10 apiece.
Southwest's .093 hitting percentage was the lowest by a XULA opponent this season. The Mustangs are 0-5 at home this season.
