Sydney Murray's eight kills, three aces, one block and 11 digs helped Xavier University of Louisiana defeat Louisiana Christian 25-18, 25-14, 25-12 Saturday and complete a two-match Red River Athletic Conference women's volleyball sweep.
The Gold Nuggets (16-8 overall, 4-2 RRAC) are tied for third place in the RRAC with Jarvis Christian, which was idle. Texas A&M-Texarkana (7-1 RRAC) and Our Lady of the Lake (5-1) split their two matches at TAMUT; the Eagles won in four sets Saturday.
Kennedy Campbell had eight kills and two blocks for XULA, and
Kamea Uitenham had seven kills, two aces and 11 digs.
Taylor Parker had six kills and two blocks,
Michaela Clayton had three aces and 14 digs, and
Laila Person tied her career high with three blocks.
Felise Jones had 16 assists and six digs for the Gold Nuggets, and freshman
Amara Schroeder — playing her second match this season — had 10 assists and two aces.
Jessica Smith had three kills, 16 assists and 10 digs for the Wildcats (2-17, 0-8), who lost their 13th in a row.
XULA outhit Louisiana Christian .230 to .018 — .298 to .000 in the final two sets — and produced advantages of 33-23 in kills, 10-4 in aces, 48-28 in digs and 8-4 in blocks.
Next for XULA will be a two-match RRAC series at OLLU in San Antonio, Texas — 6 p.m. Friday and noon Saturday.
