HATTIESBURG, Miss. — William Carey's Natalie Bartholomew produced four of her season-high 20 kills during a 9-0 closing run Tuesday to power the Lady Crusaders in a 19-25, 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 15-5 women's volleyball victory against Xavier University of Louisiana.
Carey (13-9) won its eighth straight at home dating to 2024.
Michaela Clayton's ace gave the Gold Nuggets (14-5) their final lead in the fifth at 4-3.
Clayton had 26 digs, and
Kennedy Campbell had 17 kills for XULA. Three Gold Nuggets produced double-doubles;
Charity Metcalf with 32 assists and 14 digs, Felisa Jones with 14 assists and 12 digs, and
Sydney Murray with 11 kills and 11 digs.
XULA narrowly missed a fourth double-double —
Kamea Uitenham had nine kills and 18 digs.
Bartholomew also had a season-high 19 digs. Teammate Agnes Hegardt had 17 kills, and Maurin Reyes had 27 assists, 20 digs and four aces.
XULA will return to the court Oct. 15 — one week from Wednesday — when the Gold Nuggets play host to city rival Loyola at 6 p.m. in the Convocation Center.
