MARIETTA, Ga. - The Xavier women's basketball team came up just short in a 59-54 loss to Life University on Day 1 of the Running Eagles Classic. 

The hosting Running Eagles (4-0) use a strong third quarter, one in which Life outscored Xavier (2-1) 18-11, to set up the win. 

Shania Swan was a major bright spot for XULA, scoring a game-high 22 points. Fatima Black added 10 points in the loss. Tiarra Tillison played the entire game, scoring 8 points, pulling 3 rebounds, and dishing out 3 assists in the effort. 

Three Running Eagles - Aniyah Offutt (15), Kenya Robinson (10), and Madison Carey (10) - scored in double figures. 

The Gold Nuggets return to action tomorrow at noon, Central Standard Time, with a game against Brewton-Parker on the second and final day of the Classic.
