ALEXANDRIA, La. —
Patricia Sosa Lora led a fourth-quarter rally Tuesday that gave NAIA No. 18 Xavier University of Louisiana
a 61-50 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory against LSU-Alexandria.
The Gold Nuggets (24-1 overall, 12-0 road, 21-1 RRAC)
won their sixth in a row and remained in a loss-column tie for first place in the conference with LSU-Shreveport (21-3, 20-1),
which was idle.
XULA trailed after each of the first three quarters,
then Sosa Lora scored eight of her game- and season-high 16 points during a 12-0 fourth-quarter run
that put the Gold Nuggets ahead to stay.
Sosa Lora also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds.
Kam Shelley had 13 points and a game-high four assists for XULA,
and
Lauren Banks had 12 points, five rebounds and three assists.
Dannah Martin-Hartwick, with 12 points, was the lone
double-figure scorer for LSUA (19-6, 16-5), the Red River's third-place team.
XULA snapped the Generals' eight-game winning streak.
XULA outshot LSUA 39.7 to 35.3 percent from the floor
and was plus-13 in turnovers, committing nine and gaining 22.
The Gold Nuggets will stay on the road
and play their final two conference games — Paul Quinn at 5:30 p.m. Thursday and Southwest (N.M.) at 1 p.m. MST Saturday.
The final XULA home appearance of the regular season will be the Crosstown Classic
doubleheader Feb. 18 against Dillard at the Convocation Center.
