Paul Quinn defeats Gold Nuggets in overtime

DALLAS — Paul Quinn's Cierra Taylor made a free throw with 10 seconds remaining in overtime, then produced a steal on Xavier University of Louisiana's final possession to lock down a 76-75 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball upset Thursday.
The Gold Nuggets (24-2 overall, 21-2 Red River, ranked 21st in the NAIA) are second in the league behind LSU-Shreveport (22-3, 21-1), a 91-65 winner at home against Texas A&M-San Antonio.
Paul Quinn, the Red River's sixth-place team, trailed 32-14 in the 15th minute and gave XULA its first road loss this season.
XULA's only lead in overtime was 72-71 after Patricia Sosa Lora's 15-footer with 2:12 remaining, and the Gold Nuggets scored their final points with 14 seconds remaining when Janiya Reed banked in a 3-pointer for a tie at 75.
The teams went to overtime tied at 68. The Lady Tigers' Kayla Webster made two free throws with 18 seconds remaining, then XULA missed three shots on the final possession of regulation.
Kam Shelley's 22 points and six rebounds for XULA tied her season highs. Teammate Sierra Headquist had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Joy Campbell had a season-high-tying 10 assists.
Canai McPherson and Adrianna Belton scored 19 points apiece for Paul Quinn (10-14, 9-12).
The Gold Nuggets will stay on the road and play their final conference game at 1 p.m. MST Saturday against the University of the Southwest in Hobbs, N.M.
