HOBBS, N.M. —
Janiya Reed scored
a season-high 18 points Saturday to help Xavier University of Louisiana
roll to a 96-70 Red River Athletic Conference women's basketball victory against
the University of the Southwest.
It was the final conference game for
the Gold Nuggets (25-2 overall, 22-2 RRAC), who will play Dillard at 6 p.m.
Tuesday in the Crosstown Classic at XULA's Convocation Center.
Reed was one of four Gold Nuggets to score
in double figures.
Kam Shelley had 19 points,
Lauren Banks 16 and
Patricia Sosa Lora 11.
Briana Montoya scored 17 points for the Mustangs (12-14, 8-14), who lost their fifth straight.
XULA led 49-32 at halftime.
It was the Gold Nuggets' eighth 80-point game this season, their most since 11 in 2000-01.
It's the first time since 2011-12
that the Gold Nuggets reached 25 victories in consecutive seasons. The XULA women
reached 25 victories 15 times during the Title IX era — 10 times during
Bo Browder's 26 seasons as head coach.
LSU-Shreveport (23-3, 22-1) clinched a tie for the Red River
regular-season championship with a 100-31 home victory against Our Lady of the Lake.
LSUS would win the regular-season title outright with a home win Thursday against LSU-Alexandria.
If LSUA wins, LSUS and XULA would share the regular-season title.
