Record-tying Campbell wins RRAC weekly award

NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Joy Campbell is the Red River Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week in women's basketball for Feb. 10-16.
The RRAC announced Monday the award, Campbell's fourth this season. She won the RRAC's defensive award for Nov. 18-24, Dec. 2-8 and Dec. 16-22. Campbell and Louisiana Christian's Princis Goff are the only Red River women to win four weekly awards this season.
Campbell, a 5-foot-6 guard and a graduate student from Fontana, Calif. — previous schools include Etiwanda High, UC Riverside and Old Dominion University — tied the Gold Nuggets' 36-year-old single-game record when she produced 15 assists Saturday at Southwest (N.M.) in XULA's 96-70 victory. Combined with her 10 assists Thursday at Paul Quinn, Campbell became the first XULA woman since 1996 with consecutive games of 10-or-more assists and the first XULA woman since 1983 with consecutive road games of 10-or-more assists.
For the week Campbell had a 4/1 assist/turnover ratio. Campbell leads the Red River and ranks seventh in the NAIA with 6.2 assists per game this season.
XULA (25-2, ranked 21st in the NAIA) will play host to Dillard (18-6) at 6 p.m. CST Tuesday at the Convocation Center in the opening game of the Crosstown Classic. That will be the Gold Nuggets' regular-season finale. They'll compete Feb. 27-March 1 as the No. 1 or 2 seed in the RRAC Tournament at Rapides Parish Coliseum in Alexandria, La.
