TEXARKANA, Texas —
Deovaunta Williams and Doreante Tucker scored 18 points apiece Thursday to lead
Texas A&M-Texarkana to an 85-68 Red River Athletic Conference men's basketball victory
against Xavier University of Louisiana.
The Eagles (15-8 overall, 13-7 RRAC) won their
third straight and stopped the five-game winning streak of the Gold Rush (16-6, 15-5).
XULA led 22-13 through 8 1/2 minutes and 38-36
at halftime, but TAMUT opened the second half with a 15-3 run and did not trail thereafter.
TAMUT outshot XULA 56.6 to 42 percent from the floor.
James Weathers scored 14 points, and
Lance Williams
and
Jathen Ross scored 13 apiece for the Gold Rush. It was XULA's first double-digit defeat
this season and its largest losing margin since November 2023.
XULA remained second in the Red River,
but LSU-Alexandria's 73-62 victory at North American reduced to two the Generals'
magic number for clinching the Red River regular-season championship.
LSUA is 18-1 in the league, and behind the Gold Rush is Our Lady of the Lake,
which was idle, at 13-6. TAMUT is fourth.
The Gold Rush will stay on the road
and visit Red River opponent Jarvis Christian at 3 p.m. Saturday in Hawkins, Texas.
The final XULA home appearance of the regular season will be the Crosstown Classic
doubleheader Feb. 18 against Dillard at the Convocation Center.
