NAIA No. 9 LSUA sweeps XULA

RESERVE, La. — NAIA No. 9 LSU-Alexandria swept Xavier University of Louisiana Tuesday in a Red River Athletic Conference softball doubleheader at Regala Park. The Generals won 5-1 and 11-8.
Next for the Gold Nuggets (10-10 overall, 6-8 Red River) will be a conference doubleheader in Hobbs, N.M., against the University of the Southwest. First pitch will be at noon MDT. Live video of those games will be offered on Facebook at facebook.com/xula.sb.live.
The Generals (26-2, 10-0) extended their winning streak to 13.

Game 1
XULA led 1-0 through five innings. Madison Winston scored an unearned run in the first on an infield throwing error, and starte pitcher Essynce Wallace limited the Generals, who entered with a .387 team batting average, to four hits through the fifth.
But in the sixth LSUA tied the score on Kaetlyn Dunbar's RBI double, then Alyssa Soileau made it 3-1 with two-run, two-out single.
LSUA starter Haley Primrose (16-2) struck out nine in a complete game and earned her seventh consecutive victory.

Game 2
XULA outscored LSUA 8-6 the final six innings. But a five-run first inning — Madi Baker and Dunbar hit bases-empty homers — put the Generals ahead to stay.
The Generals homered five times. Julia Kwakernaak homered in the second and fourth innings, and Jillian Howell led off the third with a homer. Primose pitched the final two innings to earn a save. Starter Alyssa Soileau (9-0) was the winner.
Winston went 4-for-4, and she and Amaya Williams had two RBIs apiece for XULA. Destiny Lavigne was 3-for-4 with three runs, and Miya Covington, Arin Dale and Amireeya Malveaux drove in runs.
LSUA had 16 hits, three apiece by Howell and Kilee Moody.
